Color Balance is one of the most helpful color adjustment tools.
- In the Effects palette, double-click the "Color Balance" thumbnail. In the "New Layer" dialog, click "OK".
- For example, to remove a yellow color cast, you move the lowest slider "blue'ward"; to decrease cyan, you move the uppermost slider "red'ward" (screenshot).
- The "Tone Balance" area of the dialog box lets you restrict the edited tonal range. For instance, you can try to add some yellow in shadows and decrease this color in highlights.
A dialog box will appear allowing you to redistribute image color. The logic of this tool is based on the RGB color model. That is, by adding a primary - red, green, or blue - color, you reduce the amount of its complementary - cyan, magenta, or yellow - color. And vice versa.
Please note, though, that when unlocked in Photoshop Elements, this tool has 2 important restrictions:
- The command is only available as an adjustment layer. (To adjust only the current layer, check "Group With Previous Layer" in the "New Layer" dialog.)
- You can't re-edit the settings of the created adjustment layer.
