Action Playback Options in Photoshop Elements

New Guide actionThis command opens the "Playback Options" dialog.

Ever wondered how the effects in the Effects palette work? Actually, they are just Photoshop actions.

  1. In the Effects palette, double-click the "Playback Options" thumbnail.
  2. In the "Playback Options" dialog, pause action playback for 2-5 seconds at every step (screenshot).
  3. Display the "Layers" and "Undo History" palettes.
  4. In the Effects palette, apply an effect and scrutinize the editing progress step by step.
  5. Open the "Playback Options" again and select "Accelerated" mode to return to normal playback.

Attention! By clicking "Cancel" in the "Playback Options" dialog (or by pressing [Esc] key), you apply the "Paused for 2 seconds" setting. To refuse pausing, select the "Accelerated" mode and click "OK".
