Photoshop Elements Tutorials > Handling Palettes

The drill below will help you to prepare the workspace for our tutorials.

1. First, let's hide all the unnecessary items. As default, when you close a palette, it hides into the Palette Well* on the Shortcuts bar. Unfortunately, with average monitor resolutions the dock is not very capacious, so you may want to hide the palettes completely.
Close the Hints and How To as it is shown in the movie Go to movie frame
*In Photoshop Elements 3.0 it is replaced with Palette Bin at the right side of the program window.
NB You can get them back at any time by using the Window menu.

2. Now let's show the useful stuff. Drag the Undo History palette by its tab outside the dock Go to movie frame

3. Pull down menu Window > Color Swatches. The Swatches appear as a separate palette Go to movie frame

4. Drag the Swatches palette by its tab and drop it onto the History palette to bundle the 2 palettes together Go to movie frame

5. Pull down Window > Layers. Then drag the Layers palette by its tab onto the Swatches/History set Go to movie frame .
We have created a Photoshop styled palette set.

6. Click on the palette's icon to close all 3 palettes to the Palette Well (Bin) Go to movie frame

7. To display a docked palette, click its tab in the Palette Well Go to movie frame

*Attention! This tutorial was composed for Photoshop Elements 1.0 and 2.0. Instruction for Photoshop Elements 3.0 available here.
