Photoshop Elements Tutorials > Undocumented Features
As you know, Photoshop Elements has not inherited all of the essential features of its bigger brother. Some functions have been removed, while the others just stay hidden. To reveal the missing features the author recorded (in full-versioned Photoshop) several macro commands (actions) and packed them into a self-extracting archive. The patch works with all versions of Adobe Photoshop Elements.

In Photoshop Elements 5, the hidden functions are patched automatically during "Animated Intro" installation. In other versions, you run "Show_Tools.exe" patch. After restarting Photoshop Elements you can find 6 new functions in your "Effects" palette (screenshot »).

With the older PSE versions, run "Show_Tools.exe" file (coming to you with the full-versioned video-book). After restarting Elements, in the "Styles and Effects" / "Effects" palette, there appear 10 new functions (animations below).

The patch unlocks most features that matters to photographers:

- Soft Proof enables you to preview how your image will be processed by the target output device (for example, by your desktop printer)
*This function works in any Photoshop Elements version.

- 4 masking commands enabling creating, editing and
handling "regular" layer masks (PSE naturally supports only adjustment layer masks.)
*These functions work in any Photoshop Elements version.

- the missing selection commands - Transform Selection* and Color Range.**.
*This function works in any Photoshop Elements version.
**These function only works in Photoshop Elements 3.

- the missing adjustment commands - Color Balance, Selective Color, Curves and Channel Mixer.
*These functions only work in Photoshop Elements 3 and earlier.

To use a "hidden tool", just double-click its thumbnail in the palette.
