As we have seen, to edit a created artwork fragment, we have to select the proper shape, object or range. As a rule, we use for the purpose the Selection Tool. This tool is not so simple as it may look at first sight, so let's discuss it in more detail.
§ 1. Activate the Selection Tool and move your pointer over the Stage. The cursor appearance changes, because the tool behavior depends on circumstances. When your pointer hovers over an empty space, the cursor displays "rectangle" symbol. Press your mouse button and drag over your document to define a rectangular selection range. If selection embraces unnecessary shapes or objects, deselect them by [Shift]-clicking on them.
§ 2. Position your pointer within a filled shape the cursor's symbol changes to "move". At this time, if you drag with the tool it moves the underlying shape.
§ 3. A vector shape in Flash can be described as a number of lines (straight or curved) connecting key points. Hover your cursor over a shape border. While passing over an anchor point, the cursor displays the "corner" symbol. Move the point to stretch your shape or create an inner or outer angle. Note that if you pull at a joint point of two or more shapes - most common case: "fill" and its "stroke" - you deform all the joining shapes. Important notice: the shape must not be selected at the moment! To transform a selected shape, click elsewhere to deselect it, or press [Shift+Ctrl+A] to apply "Deselect All" command.
§ 4. While passing over a "line" (a stroke or a fill edge) the cursor shows "curve" pictogram. Pull the segment to reposition it and / or to modify its curvature.
§ 5. To create a sharp corner on a smooth curve you add an additional anchor point. Position your cursor over a line, hold down [Ctrl] key and drag to accomplish this.
§ 6. To select a free-form area, choose from the Toolbox the Lasso Tool and draw on the Stage as with a regular pencil. As soon as you release the mouse button (stylus), the selection contour closes up and you can edit the outlined zone.
§ 7. In the tool options, enable "Polygon Mode". In this mode, each time you click the mouse, the tool sets an anchor point for the polygon you are creating. Step by step select an area; then double-click to close the selection contour. |
