1. Open an image from our sample folder.

2. In the Tools bar, select the Text A Tool.

3. On the Tool Options bar, define font style, size, and other properties.

4. In the Materials palette, define font color. The upper - foreground - rectangle indicates stroke (font outline) color. If Stroke width value on the Options bar is set to 0,00 the foreground color doesn't matter.

5. The lower - background - rectangle displays font fill color. Consistent color is not the only kind of material available in Paint Shop Pro. Use the Style switch to select gradient or pattern fill.

6. Click on the background indicator to open Material Properties dialog and choose a preset gradient and/or specify any available options.

7. Click on the image, type something in the Text Entry dialog, and click Apply.

8. With the Text A Tool still active, adjust the typed inscription's size and position.

9. When finished, click on some other tool to hide the bounding box and estimate the result.

NB Although working with the Text A Tool feels very much like using a regular text editor, for efficient work with text you must understand layers.
