After mixing a perfectly matching color or a complex gradient we may want to apply it repeatedly. Let's see how to achieve this.
§ 1. Select a shape - either fill or stroke - with the selection Tool.
§ 2. In the Tools panel, activate the Eyedropper Tool and click some other shape to copy its color. Done! The "source" shape attributes have been applied to the selected shape. Note though, that "fills" may be only transferred to "fills", and "strokes" - to "strokes".
§ 3. In case no shape being selected at the moment, the Eyedropper just remembers color attributes. Then you can apply it to any matching shape.
§ 4. Another method of reusing a color / gradient is adding it to the document's Swatches. To save the current color attributes, open the Color Mixer panel menu and select "Add Swatch" command. Now on you can find the added swatch in the Color Swatches panel and in pop-up Swatches.
§ 5. When you click with the Eyedropper on a filled shape, Flash automatically activates Paint Bucket and enables "Lock Fill" mode. In this mode, all the applied fills can be regarded as parts of a single fill. For example, if you apply a radial gradient 2 times, the fills may look very differently, because the both gradients start from the point you first clicked at. If you want the gradient fill centers coincide the Paint Bucket application points, turn off the "Lock Fill".
§ 6. As we have seen, the strokes are very handy to create and modify. However, sometimes we may need to edit a stroke in a fill-like way, for example, copy to it a fill attributes or create a stroke around it. To fulfill this, select a stroke (or strokes) and pull down "Modify > Shape > Combine Lines to Fills". Remember though that the reverse conversion is impossible. |
